The preventative health care measures we have covered function to reduce the risk of illness; they do not prevent children from becoming sick entirely.
Even if parents follow all preventative health care recommendations perfectly, there will still be occasions when children will get sick. Therefore, it is important that parents understand some of the more common types of illnesses children are likely to experience in middle childhood so that these illnesses can be recognized and appropriately handled.
The next portion of this center describes symptoms, causes and treatments for some of the more common childhood medical conditions. These descriptions are for informational purposes only and should never replace a doctor's assessment and treatment recommendations. Parents and caregivers should always consult with a doctor when children have a non-trivial medical condition.
